Job Summary

Foundation Technician-A is a non-exempt role focused on construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment/systems. The position requires 6-8 years of continuous experience with 525 kV and below equipment, work in confined spaces and elevated areas, and may involve leading/coaching crew members. Responsibilities include wiring and foundations work (concrete foundations, ground grids, steel erection), buswork (high/low voltage), actuating components (airbreak/hookstick switches, control cables, terminations, control buildings), conduit and duct banks, capacitor banks (23kV-230kV), transformers, regulators, circuit breakers, and circuit switchers. The role involves testing, adjusting, troubleshooting, and maintaining tools and test equipment, as well as frequent interaction with energized HV systems. Travel to various locations and potential extended hours during emergencies are required. Competencies emphasize safety, teamwork, customer orientation, reliability, and strong interpersonal/communication skills. Required Qualifications

  • Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL)
  • Must supply own personal hand tools
  • Must supply own safety toed work boots
  • Must be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs
  • Must be capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards
  • Ability to interpret substation structural drawings (elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans) and communicate with customers and subordinates
  • Ability to lead/coach subordinates on the crew
  • Willing to work overtime or long hours during emergencies or when requested
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
  • 90% Travel Required
  • Operational experience with heavy equipment (bucket, derrick and boom trucks; backhoes; excavators; skid steer loaders; articulating man-lifts; pressure diggers; trenchers; rough terrain telescopic forklifts)
  • Must be capable of working in confined spaces/areas
  • Must be able to work independently or with others
  • Must have extensive knowledge of substation systems and ability to determine proper phase shift and rotation in paralleling transformer banks
  • Must interpret substation drawings and communicate with customers and subordinates
