Forklift Operator - Part Time 2nd Shift

Job Summary
Load and unload freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts, reach trucks, and other material handling equipment while moving, staging, and sorting cargo between dock doors, trailers, and warehouse areas. Scan and track freight using handheld devices to ensure documentation integrity, identify damaged items, and report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns to supervisors. Mentor new Material Handlers, coordinate task assignments, and assist drivers with loading activities while maintaining a clean, safe dock environment. Operate under strict safety policies, OSHA requirements, and PPE standards. Work Mon-Fri 6pm-12am at a multimodal transportation terminal, handling oversized or high-value freight with regular attendance and predictable shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Valid forklift certification/licensure (or ability to obtain before operating equipment)
- 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing
- Ability to recognize numbers, labels, barcodes, and freight markings accurately
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic to verify freight counts, quantities, and weights
- Willingness and ability to learn and use basic computer systems, handheld scanners, and freight-tracking devices
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment (MHE) such as pallet jacks, dollies, hand trucks, order pickers, pallet riders, conveyors, dock plates, dock levelers, sit-down/stand-up forklifts and reach trucks
- Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry freight up to 50lbs without assistance
- Ability to lift freight up to 75lbs with assistance or mechanical aids
- Vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills sufficient to work safely in a noisy dock environment
- Ability to work safely around moving equipment, vehicles, and freight in a non-climate-controlled environment
- Ability to work in temperature extremes (both hot and cold)
- Ability to work outdoors and/or in exposure to precipitation (rain, sleet, snow, etc.)
- Ability to work in exposure to moving equipment, vehicle traffic, exhaust, dust, and moderate to loud noise
- Ability to work assigned schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on business needs
