Job Summary
Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near center, cross dock, trailers, yard, or work site by reading work orders and following oral instructions. Opens containers, inspects items for identity, quantity, and condition, and segregates those requiring special handling. Operates forklifts and other equipment to load materials onto pallets, trays, racks, and shelves, then installs loading tools to prevent shifting. Completes receiving and shipping documents and activities using a mobile scanner, identifies shipments via proper marking and labeling, and maintains a clean work environment. Conducts daily safety and equipment checks, operates banding and taping machinery, and follows all safety procedures to improve the center's safety record.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 6 months related experience and/or training
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Able to use scanning equipment
- Must pass the Protrans Forklift Performance Test
- Must be able to use both feet and legs when operating a forklift
- Must be able to use both hands and arms
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

- Must be able to complete receiving and shipping documents accurately and completely via ProTrans specifications
- Must be able to complete receiving and shipping activities with use of mobile scanner
- Must be able to load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand or with forklift or other handling equipment
- Must be able to load materials into carrier vehicles and install loading tools to prevent shifting or damage in transit
- Must be able to open containers as directed by work instructions or supervisor
- Must be able to receive items for shipment, inspect visually for identity, quantity, and condition
- Must be able to check for obvious damage and segregate items requiring special handling
- Must be able to work in extreme outside weather conditions
- Must be able to work around moving mechanical parts
- Must be able to work in a moderate noise level environment
- Must be available for Monday - Friday 5:00pm - 1:30am shift
- Must be able to work in Romulus / Detroit, MI
