Job Summary

Napa County Resource Conservation District seeks a Forestry Specialist (RPF or RPF-Track) to lead the technical planning, implementation, and project management of forestry projects that improve forest health and wildfire resilience in Napa County. The role requires demonstrated expertise in silviculture, forest stand management, and forest practice, and carries professional-level responsibility for landowner technical assistance, project oversight, regulatory compliance, and community education. Working with the Forest Health & Restoration Program Director, the specialist ensures projects align with forestry best practices, comply with the California Forest Practice Act, and achieve measurable ecosystem-resilience outcomes. The position serves as primary liaison with landowners, partners, agencies, and stakeholders, and represents Napa RCD at meetings and public events. Responsibilities include prescription development, project implementation, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, budget tracking, development of Forest Management Plans (FMPs), THPs, NTMPs, navigating financial assistance programs, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, applying GIS and forest inventory methods, supporting grant/proposal development, and coordinating across programs to integrate forest health and wildfire resilience efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualification Path Track 1 – Licensed Forester (RPF) with four or more years of applied forestry experience including silvicultural treatment planning, timber harvest planning or operations (THP/NTMP/NTMP-SYP), forest stand inventory and mensuration, reforestation, forest pest and disease management, prescribed fire planning, or range and watershed management with a direct forestry component.
  • Qualification Path Track 2 – RPF-Track: active pursuit of RPF licensure, authorization to sit for the RPF examination, or commitment to pursue, plus two or more years of progressively responsible forestry experience in forest stand management, silviculture, timber harvest planning/operations, reforestation, forest pest control, pre-fire engineering or fuels management, and a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in forestry, silviculture, or forest management or related field with substantial forestry coursework
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check
  • Experience in forestry including GIS, forest inventory, and forest management best practices
