Job Summary
Conduct in-depth forensic underwriting reviews of closed mortgage loans to identify potential fraud, misrepresentation, and compliance violations with government agency and investor guidelines. Re-underwrite loan files by analyzing credit reports, income calculations, assets, and collateral, then exercise delegated lending authority to render final decisions on approvals, suspensions, or denials. Investigate transaction components using resources like Lexis Nexis and perform verifications to ensure documentation such as mortgage notes and TRID forms are properly executed and fees are within tolerances. Coordinate with legal and underwriting teams to cure defects, prepare formal written responses to agencies regarding audit deficiencies, and determine if SAR reports should be filed for discovered fraud.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' underwriting experience with exposure to both manual and automated underwriting environments
- Knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines
- Knowledge of transaction components that indicate a potential for fraud
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
