Job Summary
As a Forensic Scientist in the Indiana State Department of Toxicology, you will conduct alcohol and/or drug analyses in the forensic toxicology laboratory and/or calibration of breath test instruments. You will act as a senior scientist performing analyses, review laboratory testing and inspections, train other scientists, develop and validate new analytical methods, operate and maintain GC/LC/MS instrumentation, perform quality control and calibration, maintain proper documentation, and communicate analytical procedures and conclusions, including court testimony as an expert witness. The role emphasizes proficiency in analytical techniques, method development, instrumentation, quality assurance, safety, and confidentiality. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Forensic Science, Biology, or related field, five years of full-time forensic/chemistry analytical experience (with at least three years as a Forensic Scientist with the Indiana State Department of Toxicology), the ability to testify professionally, a valid driver’s license, and demonstrated communication and problem-solving skills. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Forensic Science, Biology, or related field
- five years of full-time experience in a forensic or chemistry analytical position
- minimum of three years of full-time experience as a Forensic Scientist with the Indiana State Department of Toxicology
- valid driver’s license
- broad knowledge of forensic toxicology techniques and instrumentation
- ability to testify as an expert witness
- ability to perform advanced scientific procedures
- ability to communicate scientific information effectively
- ability to analyze and resolve complex problems
- ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment
- ability to adhere to laboratory safety practices
- confidentiality of test results
