Job Summary
Perform technical and scientific toxicology analyses within Oregon State Police Forensic Laboratory. Independently plan and problem solve casework, prepare reagents and controls, maintain laboratory records and reports to accreditation standards, manage assigned caseload, and communicate with law enforcement partners and legal counsel. Provide credible sworn testimony in criminal or civil proceedings, and participate in training as needed. Utilize analytical instrumentation (e.g., gas chromatographs) and work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring timely, accurate results and adherence to quality standards. Additional duties include preparing documentation for court, supporting Forensic Services Division analysts, and completing proficiency testing annually.
Required Qualifications
- Five years experience as a Forensic Scientist in an accredited Forensic Laboratory; AND a Bachelor's degree in a natural science (biology, chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, physics, forensic science, pharmacology, bacteriology or closely related field)
- If not yet at full performance level, underfill option with minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in natural science as listed above
- Experience performing laboratory analyses and using analytical instruments (e.g., gas chromatographs)
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to evaluate information objectively
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must pass urine analysis drug screen and background/criminal history checks
- Ability to provide credible sworn testimony in criminal or civil proceedings
- Official transcripts from all higher education institutions used in degree(s)
