Job Summary
Provide recovery-oriented peer support services to justice-involved individuals within a correctional setting by engaging participants through lived experience, offering individual and group mentoring, and coaching recovery goals. Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams, correctional staff, and community partners to facilitate discharge and reentry planning, including warm handoffs to housing, employment, and substance use treatment resources. Document peer support services accurately and participate in case staffing, quality improvement activities, and required trainings to promote participant engagement and successful community transition.
Required Qualifications
- Forensic Peer Specialist Certificate or eligibility to obtain
- Knowledge and skills necessary to understand the comprehensive needs and dynamics of individuals with behavioral health and substance use disorders, co-occurring conditions, and justice involvement in a correctional setting
- Lived experience with recovery and/or justice involvement
- Ability to establish trusting, recovery-oriented relationships with justice-involved individuals
- Ability to establish professional peer relationships while maintaining healthy boundaries, confidentiality, ethical standards, and adherence to correctional facility security protocols
- Ability to provide recovery-oriented peer support services to justice-involved individuals within a correctional setting
- Ability to engage participants through the use of lived experience
- Ability to provide individual and group peer mentoring and recovery coaching
- Ability to assist individuals in identifying strengths and developing personal recovery goals
- Ability to promote hope, wellness, and self-advocacy
- Ability to document peer support services in accordance with agency and regulatory standards
- Ability to participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning and case staffing
- Ability to assist with discharge and reentry planning
- Ability to facilitate referrals and warm handoffs to community behavioral health providers, peer support programs, substance use treatment, housing, employment, education, transportation, and other recovery resources
- Ability to educate participants regarding recovery, wellness, harm reduction, and community supports
- Ability to maintain compliance with correctional facility policies and procedures
- Ability to promote participant engagement in services
- Ability to contribute to improved recovery outcomes, reduced recidivism, increased community stability, and successful transition from incarceration to community-based care
- Competent, ethical, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, recovery-oriented, and person-centered manner
- Adherence to Aspire BHDD policies
- Adherence to DBHDD Certified Peer Specialist standards
- Adherence to applicable state and federal regulations
