Job Summary
Direct shop employees, welders, painters, and plant clerks to meet production schedules while maintaining quality, safety, and cost containment standards. Determine work procedures, equipment, and manpower needs per production drawings, then select, supervise, assign, and instruct staff. Monitor work processes and products, coordinate with other operations phases, and consult with engineers and quality assurance inspectors regarding product integrity. Ensure company equipment is properly handled, maintained, and secured. Requires considerable knowledge of plant operations, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to build a productive work group. Works under general direction of plant management.
Required Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of plant operations
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints or work objectives
- Ability to effectively plan work procedures, equipment, material, and manpower needs
- Ability to effectively build and lead a productive work group
- Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing
- Completion of a standard high school education
- Course work in drafting, industrial technology or related areas
- Extensive experience in plant operations and supervision
