Foreign Language Medical Interpreter - Spanish

Job Summary
Conduct consecutive and/or simultaneous language interpretation for limited English proficient patients and families regarding medical care. Perform sight-translation of relevant materials to enhance comprehension of procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, and follow-up care. Execute written translation of hospital documents, including medical record forms and patient education materials, as assigned by supervisor. Requires one year of interpreting experience with six months in medical settings, a recognized medical interpreter training certificate, or NBCMI/CCHI certification, plus a passing Interpreter Skills Test. Schedule includes weekends from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, equivalent education (GED), OR post-secondary education
- One year of interpreting experience, with 6 months of medical interpreting
- Certificate of completion from a recognized Medical Interpreter Training Program confirming successful completion of a minimum forty (40) hours of medical interpreter training
- Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) through the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) or certification through Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI)
- Successful completion of the Interpreter Skills Test (IST) with passing score as administered by Northside Hospital
