Food Sovereignty Program Manager

Job Summary

Oversee the planting, cultivation, and harvesting of culturally appropriate foods while managing sustainable agricultural operations and regenerative practices. Develop seasonal crop plans aligned with community nutrition goals and coordinate the distribution of produce to Tribal programs and community members. Lead grant writing, administration, and reporting efforts to secure funding for food sovereignty initiatives, ensuring compliance with all program requirements. Supervise seasonal staff and volunteers, manage project budgets, and collaborate with Tribal leadership, elders, and external partners to advance food self-sufficiency and community wellness.

Required Qualifications

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in agriculture, food systems, or community-based food programs
  • Hands-on experience with planting, cultivation, and harvesting practices
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Sustainable Food Systems, Environmental Science, Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License at the time of appointment
  • Regular exposure to weather conditions, soil, and agricultural environments
  • May require early mornings, evenings, or weekends during peak planting and harvest seasons
  • Will be subject to pre-employment drug testing background check prior to appointment and random drug testing during employment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with Tribal governments or Indigenous food sovereignty programs
  • Knowledge of traditional foods, culturally based agriculture, or regenerative practices
  • Grant-funded program or project management experience
