Job Summary
The position involves preparing and serving nutritious meals per the menus while following Food Safe and OH&S guidelines. Responsibilities include cooking using various methods, rotating inventory every three days, monitoring temperatures and sanitation, labeling and storing items, recording preparation times and deviations, assisting with meal statistics and training, and maintaining cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas. The role requires Red Seal Certification, Food Safe Level 1 (with Level 2 asset), and related health and safety trainings, plus one year of industrial kitchen cooking experience. Strong English communication, teamwork, and the ability to stand and lift up to 30 pounds are needed, along with a valid driver’s license and required background checks. Compensation ranges from $20.09 to $25.11 per hour, up to $30.13, with potential benefits and accommodation options offered by The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda. Required Qualifications
- Completion of a formal post-secondary program of one academic year
- Red Seal Certification Required (food services certification & food handling certification)
- Food Safe Level 1
- Food Safe Level 2 will be considered as an asset
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certification
- WHMIS Training & Universal Precautions Training
- Online New Hire Health and Safety Courses
- Other training as required by contract or The Salvation Army
- One year of experience cooking in an industrial kitchen
- Knowledge about food preparation and is familiar with kitchen equipment
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract (may be required for some positions)
- Background check consent and a clear vulnerable sector screening
- Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
