Food Services Coordinator and Lead Cook

Job Summary

Develop and implement a nutritious meal program that enhances food security for children, youth, and families while planning menus that are culturally based and meet dietary needs. Direct, supervise, and evaluate kitchen staff and volunteers to ensure food handling, preparation, and storage comply with the Food Premises Regulation and other health and safety acts. Maintain strict kitchen standards through daily cleaning, sanitization, pest prevention, and inventory management, including coordinating with contractors for facility repairs. Educate participants on healthy eating through skill-based programs and actively engage them in meal planning and hands-on cooking activities. Manage grocery ordering, budgeting, and procurement within financial constraints while documenting all interactions and incidents. Lead kitchen meetings, foster a safe cooking environment, and respond to emergent circumstances with independent judgment.

Required Qualifications

  • FOODSAFE Level 1
  • FOODSAFE Level 2
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a kitchen environment
  • Basic mathematical/numeracy skills
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • An acceptable Criminal Record Check
  • Crisis prevention training and/or de-escalation training, non-violent intervention
  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Indigenous awareness training
  • Mental health first aid training
  • Domestic violence safety planning
  • Substance use awareness and safety training, including naloxone training
  • LGBT2Q+ awareness training
  • Trauma-informed practice training
  • Staff self-care training
  • BC Housing Database training

Desired Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree in the Food Services Industry
  • Respect for and knowledge of traditional Indigenous healing, culture, traditions, teaching, and ceremonies, with the capacity of integrating the same into daily wellness activities
  • Knowledge of shíshálh culture and community members
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (own vehicle is an asset)
  • High level of initiative and self-direction
