Job Summary
Prepare and serve a variety of cold food items and beverages for customers through multiple stations and service methods. Operate standard and advanced kitchen equipment while following scaled recipes to ensure offerings meet menu and recipe standards. Maintain cleanliness, stock levels, and organization of assigned stations, and assist with portion control by recording amounts of food prepared, served, and left over. Process sales transactions including cash, check, credit, and meal plan card operations while validating transactions as necessary. Ensure sanitary, HACCP, and NY State Health codes are maintained in assigned areas, including temperatures, safe handling procedures, and proper uniform adherence. Interact directly with customers and work in an open kitchen environment visible to guests. This role supports Cornell Dining's mission of nourishing the future for students and staff across multiple campuses.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- some relevant food service, barista or cash handling experience
- equivalent combinations of education and experience
- Basic proficiency in English involving reading, writing, math and verbal articulation
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. (minimal)
- Must be able to reach over your head
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to squat occasionally
- Must be able to bend frequently
- Must be able to conduct repetitive motion, such as chopping, stirring, and mixing
- Must be able to withstand frequent/continuous exposure to temperature changes and a variety of environmental and sensory impacts, including but not limited to cold, heat, steam, smoke, slippery floors, and food waste areas
- Must be comfortable and able to use kitchen equipment
- Must be able to learn the utilization of advanced cooking equipment as needed
Desired Qualifications
- Additional education and experience preferred including food service or production kitchen experience
- Knowledge of proper sanitation and HACCP procedures
- ServSafe Certification
