Job Summary

Organize and supervise the Food Service Department by setting up service areas, preparing meals, and managing kitchen equipment. Coordinate site control of food costs through proper storage, maintain sanitation standards, and ensure daily inventory and supply orders are met. Supervise lower-level workers, manage employee schedules, and handle cash transactions for student meals while communicating with students, parents, and faculty. Perform duties across multiple District buildings as needed, including operating ovens and dishwashers. This 9-month role supports the Food and Nutrition unit with a 7.5-hour shift from 5:00am to 12:30pm.

Required Qualifications

  • Must become certified through the School Nutrition Association
  • Must pass Food and Nutrition Department standardized assessment
  • Must follow safety and sanitation procedures including wearing uniform, hairnet, and sturdy non-ski shoes
  • Must be very safety conscious
  • Must be physically able to work in a standing position for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to walk much of the time during the day
  • Must be able to work in warm surroundings
  • Must have manual dexterity to handle knives and other pieces of kitchen equipment
  • Must be able to lift materials weighing between 40 and 50 lbs
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, twist, and lift
  • Must have close vision
  • Must have color vision
  • Must have the ability to adjust focus
  • Must have working knowledge of computers
  • Must know the basics of USDA Food Service Requirements
  • Must have competency in the SNAP Computer Food Service System

  • Must be able to operate a garbage disposal

  • Must be able to coordinate all site employee schedules
  • Must be able to communicate daily with each site to insure that all amounts of items are on hand or ordered in a timely manner
  • Must be able to fill out daily inventory sheets
  • Must be able to fill out daily logs
  • Must be able to place bread orders
  • Must be able to order other day to day supplies
  • Must be extremely customer service oriented

  • Must genuinely like working with and around children, grades PreK-12
  • Must be able to attend workshops for certification
  • Must be able to maintain working knowledge of the kitchen and daily work schedule
  • Must be able to complete a Food Service Sanitation course after ninety (90) days of employment
  • Must be able to complete the applied food service sanitation course
  • Must be able to complete the fundamentals of child nutrition course
  • Must be able to complete the principles of food preparation course
  • Must be able to complete pre-employment training
  • Must be able to complete orientation with the Human Resources Department
  • Must be able to complete a background check
  • Must be able to work 9 months/year
  • Must be able to work 5:00am - 12:30pm
  • Must be able to work 7.5 hours/day
  • Must be able to work on-site
  • Must be able to assist in all District buildings as needed
  • Must be able to supervise one or more Food Service Workers levels I and II

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual preferred or highly desirable
