Job Summary

Organize work under supervisor direction by assisting with setting up service areas, portioning and serving food, and cleaning, storing utensils, and washing dishes, trays, and kitchen equipment. Prepare foods such as cleaning produce, buttering bread, and making sandwiches while operating ovens, dishwashers, and other cooking equipment. Control food and supply costs through proper handling, rotation, and storage techniques, and maintain sanitation and safety standards throughout the department. At the high school, process SNAP transactions, reconcile cash reports, and operate ice cream or shaved ice machines. Perform garbage detail procedures and wash laundry, defrost refrigerators, and operate product machines as needed. Work Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 1:30pm for 2.50 hours daily in a 9-month schedule, with bilingual skills and computer proficiency preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Must follow safety and sanitation procedures including wearing uniform, hairnet, and sturdy non-ski shoes
  • Must be very safety conscious
  • Must maintain working knowledge of the kitchen and daily work schedule
  • Must know the basics of USDA Food Service Requirements
  • Competency in the SNAP Computer Food Service System
  • Comfortable operating an oven, stovetop, can opener, microwaves, garbage disposal, dishwasher
  • Must be physically able to work in a standing position for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to walk much of the time during the day
  • Must be able to work in warm surroundings
  • Must have manual dexterity to handle knives and other pieces of kitchen equipment
  • Must be able to lift materials weighing between 40 and 50 lbs
  • Must be able to ask for assistance when necessary
