Job Summary
Develop daily menus and prepare nutritious breakfast and lunch meals for delivery to various programs. Maintain smooth kitchen operations, manage food inventory, and ensure all meals meet high standards and nutrition requirements. Clean and maintain the kitchen, organize supplies, label meals for serving, and track food budgets and donations. Record daily logs for food, refrigeration, and temperature while adjusting menus based on available donations. This role supports SOME's mission to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through comprehensive services. The Cook reports to the Kitchen Manager and is essential to serving 900 meals daily.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or GED
- 1-3 yrs. food service or restaurant experience
- Food Handler's License by the District of Columbia Department of Health
- Sunday - Thursday, 6:00 am - 2:00 pm (40 hours per week)
- Safety Sensitive position subject to drug testing
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
- Must be able to move around all levels/floors of the building
Desired Qualifications
- Culinary Arts Degree
- 3 + yrs. institutional food service or restaurant experience
- Driver's License
