Job Summary
Operate commercial dish machines, scrape and scrub cookware, sort trays, and sanitize pots and pans using a three-compartment sink. Clean kitchen equipment, sweep designated areas, and manage food waste, trash, recycling, and compost. Retrieve soiled carts from patient units, deliver clean carts, and empty waste containers to receptacles. Support overall kitchen and meal service operations at the Portland VA Medical Center. Must be a U.S. citizen with a current Food Handler Certificate (ServSafe or ANAB-accredited). Subject to background investigation, reference checks, and a pre-employment physical. Position pays $17.92 - $23.01/hr. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive standing and walking.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizen
- Current Food Handler Certificate from: ServSafe, or ANAB-accredited / ANSI-approved program
- Subject to a background/suitability investigation
- Employment reference checks
- Completed physical examination prior to starting
- A complete application package
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Ability to carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
- Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs of force
