Job Summary
Prepare and serve food and beverages, perform routine kitchen tasks including simple food preparation, serving, and cleanup. Safely use knives and handle hot equipment while maintaining facility standards for dish and equipment cleaning. Follow food sanitation schedules and kitchen safety practices. Bend, stoop, lift, and carry food items and supplies. Work evenings from 3:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. with every other weekend rotation from 11:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Norfolk Veterans Home. May provide training to new employees.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of personal hygiene
- Knowledge of basic kitchen equipment supplies and utensils
- Knowledge of basic food stuffs such as fruits, vegetables, bakery goods, meats and poultry
- Knowledge of food preparation procedures for salads, sandwiches, short order items and other routinely prepared foods
- Knowledge of facility standards and procedures for the cleaning of dishes, utensils, equipment and facilities
- Knowledge of food sanitation and food preparation schedules
- Ability to understand and follow facility kitchen and dining room safety practice
- Ability to safely use knives and handle hot equipment or utensils
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to tolerate high temperature and high humidity
- Ability to communicate effectively with facility residents, patients or members
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift and carry food items, equipment and supplies
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
- Must be available for every other weekend rotation 11:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
- Must be available for 3:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. shifts
