Job Summary
Develop engaging written and visual materials for United Way's food security work, translating complex policy information into accessible content for partners, policymakers, and community members. Draft blog posts, newsletters, social media content, and reports while creating impactful digital assets using design tools. Provide logistical and communications support for advocacy priorities, including tracking policy developments and preparing briefing materials, talking points, and partner alerts. Coordinate high-quality in-person and virtual events such as statewide meetings, trainings, webinars, and partner convenings to advance food security initiatives. Synthesize large amounts of information and manage projects from inception to execution in a fast-paced environment. This grant-funded role supports the Hunger Free Washington initiative to expand access to federally funded nutrition programs across Washington State.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply racial and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace contexts.
- Lived experience and/or demonstrated professional skills working within a diverse work environment.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to quickly and concisely synthesize large amounts of information.
- Ability to execute at a high level, with strong follow-through, in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task; effective time and project management skills; able to independently plan projects from inception to execution.
- Act as a team player who is resourceful and proactive.
- Passion for helping alleviate hunger in our community.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, public policy, or a related field preferred.
- Interest in public policy, advocacy, and systems change related to food security.
- Previous policy experience is not required.
