Job Summary
This Food Scientist role focuses on developing and commercializing new and improved food products and processes under manager guidance. Responsibilities include writing product specifications, ensuring regulatory labeling and food safety compliance, developing prototypes and specifications for production labeling, conducting cost analyses, and leading cook validations across products, lines, and fryer platforms to support commercialization. The position requires collaboration with marketing, insights, sales, culinary, FSQA, operations, and purchasing; planning and executing development projects from concept to commercialization; bench-top development, pilot plant testing, and scaling to full production at federally inspected facilities. Preferred background includes poultry product development and knowledge of ingredients, formulation, and food processing; travel to plant production facilities; and the ability to present technical data to cross-functional teams. The role supports multiple levels (Food Scientist I–II and Senior I–II) with different education/experience requirements and offers relocation assistance.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Food Science, Meat Science, Food Engineering or related field; MS or PhD in Food Science, Meat Science, Food Engineering or related field; PhD with minimum 2 years (MS with 3 years; BS with 5 years for various tracks) or equivalent experience for each level (Food Scientist I/II, Senior I/II)
- Diverse degree pathways including PhD/MS/BS per level
- Experience in product development, process development, and commercialization from concept through scale-up
- Knowledge of regulatory labeling and food safety requirements
- Strong analytical, data interpretation, and cost analysis skills
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams (marketing, insights, sales, culinary, FSQA, operations, purchasing)
- Travel required: minimum 25% (12+ trips/year)
- Strong communication and project management skills
- Experience with pilot plant testing, bench-top development, and scale-up production
- Ability to develop and validate cook procedures and production labeling
