Food Safety/Quality Manager

Job Summary
Manage the Food Safety/Quality Team and oversee the Quality Supervisor to develop staff and maximize departmental effectiveness. Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of food safety systems, including documentation management, root cause analyses, and corrective actions. Ensure compliance with international and federal standards such as FSMA, FDA, USDA, and BRC certification while supporting HACCP reviews and sanitation group initiatives. Act as a liaison with internal operational departments and lead customer audits for USAID, USDA, UNICEF, and World Food Programme. Steer the microbiological and analytical testing program, validate supplier audits, and maintain environmental monitoring protocols. Oversee product quality testing relationships with third-party external labs and ensure adherence to GMPs, SOPs, and international food safety codes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors in food science, chemistry, or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years with managerial experience within a food-manufacturing environment
- Experience in team building and integration of a Food Safety/Quality team into successful manufacturing operations in a LEAN environment
- Strong communication, leadership and organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively with his/her technical team and with all other Operational Directors and Managers
- Experience in creating, implementing, maintaining, evaluating, enforcing and updating a facility's GMPs, HACCP, SSOP and SOP's programs
- Knowledge of exporting food products, as well as knowledge of quality regulations surrounding sales of products in the United States
- Must have strategic auditing capabilities and extensive food regulatory and compliance knowledge Involving GFSI standards such as BRC, FSMA Human Foods Preventive Controls Rule, USDA, Food Code State of Rhode Island
- PCQI certification is required
- Experience utilizing an SAP quality module or similar ERP
- Must be willing to attend a 2-3 week period of training at the Nutriset production plant in Malaunay, France
- Must be able to attend domestic and international conferences and meetings related to quality control
Desired Qualifications
- Background in microbiology preferred
- Certification as a Lead Auditor in the Food Area would be an asset
