Food Safety & Quality Assurance Technician

Job Summary
Conduct quantitative measurements, environmental and product sampling, and inspection of incoming raw materials to uphold food safety and quality assurance standards. Perform pre and post-operation sanitation monitoring, equipment calibration verification, and pathogen testing swabbing. Complete process monitoring activities, maintain accurate GMP records and temp logs, and verify critical control processes. Coordinate Quality Control Associates and deliver FSQA training to new and existing associates. Maintain clear communication with Operations, Procurement, and Sanitation teams while reporting workplace hazards. Work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations, using personal protective equipment as directed. Report to the FSQA Supervisor and support the Production, Sanitation, and Warehouse teams.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Biological, Chemical or Food Sciences or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a food safety or quality assurance role in the food, cosmetic or other regulated industry
- Strong understanding of HACCP principles, the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and GFSI schemes
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, varying shifts and holiday work, as required
- Willing and able to work in a dynamic environment, which can include warm/humid or cold temperatures
- Willing and able to push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to prioritize, remain calm and alert while multitasking in a fast-paced and deadline oriented environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment, in addition to having strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational, analytical, communication and leadership skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets) and video conferencing (Hangouts, Google Meet)

- Level 1 First Aid is considered an asset
