Job Summary
Food Research & Development Specialist to support product innovation, formulation, and scale-up in a Southern California-based, heritage-focused ready-to-eat broth, soup, and protein manufacturer. Lead bench-top development, pilot trials, and plant-scale testing; collaborate with Operations, Quality, and Regulatory to ensure formulations meet FDA/USDA, GMP, HACCP, labeling requirements; conduct ingredient evaluations, shelf-life studies, sensory testing, and cost optimization; maintain formulation records, SOPs, and trial documentation; assist supplier evaluation and optimization; troubleshoot texture, flavor, stability, yield, and shelf-life issues; contribute to continuous improvement in product quality and manufacturing efficiency. Ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Food Science/related field and 2+ years in food R&D or product development, with hands-on formulation and lab equipment experience; familiarity with regulatory labeling and food safety systems; strong cross-functional communication and project management skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Nutrition, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in food R&D, product development, or food manufacturing
- Hands-on experience with formulation, testing, and basic lab equipment
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
