Job Summary
Instructional Assistant in Staunton City Schools supports classroom teachers by assisting in delivering instruction, implementing instructional plans (including IEPs when applicable), preparing teaching aids, assisting with individual and group learning activities, maintaining a safe and orderly classroom, supporting field trips, library activities, and other duties as assigned by the Principal or teachers. Requires reliable attendance, confidentiality, and adherence to school/division policies; qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and eligibility for paraprofessional requirements (Paraprofessional Assessment with a qualifying score or 48 college credits or an Associate’s Degree). Background check is required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Has passed the Paraprofessional Assessment (minimum score 455) or has a minimum of 48 college credits or has an Associate’s Degree
- At least 18 years of age
- Experience working with groups of children
- Good physical and emotional health
- Criminal background check is required as a condition of employment
- Meets No Child Left Behind Act paraprofessional qualifications at elementary level (Paraprofessional Assessment or college credits or Associate’s Degree)
