Job Summary
Fluid Power Engineer to design, test, and troubleshoot mobile hydraulic/pneumatic systems for railroad maintenance equipment. Applies fluid power theory to design hydraulic/pneumatic circuits in an OEM environment, plans and coordinates hydraulic/pneumatic projects to meet deadlines, and analyzes test data to verify performance against specifications. Uses EPLAN Fluid for circuit design and documentation, ensures compliance with ISO 1219, and conducts root-cause analysis. Supervises detailed design/drafting with CAD designers and coordinates with planning/purchasing and production teams. May travel to customer sites to evaluate problems and report findings. Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering and 2-5 years in mobile hydraulic design; CFHPS/NFPA or similar certification preferred; EIT a plus; familiarity with ISO/ANSI standards, GD&T, welding/machining, and strong communication/project-management skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering field
- 2-5 years of experience in mobile hydraulic design
- Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic components and system design
- CFHPS, NFPA or other fluid power organizations certificate preferred
- EIT certification considered a PLUS
- Knowledge of ISO and ANSI (Y14) standards
- Working knowledge of the metric system and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Familiar with weldments and machining operation
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers/regulatory agencies
- Ability to write articles for publication in prescribed style
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Motivated and self-starter with ability to work under deadlines
- Leadership and project management skills
- AREMA, AAR, SAE membership helpful but not required
