Job Summary

Flow Cytometry Systems Engineer at Nomic. Serve as the internal subject-matter expert for commercial flow cytometers used across internal operations, development, and customer deployments. Responsibilities include cytometer setup, daily operation, calibration, QC, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and hardware improvements (e.g., replacing parts, fluidics, optics alignment). Develop and maintain best practices, SOPs, training materials, and escalation procedures; collaborate with Operations and Development to improve uptime and workflow robustness. Support on-site and remote deployments, assess instrument readiness, onboard customers, transfer protocols, and provide ongoing technical support (>50% travel to internal sites (Montreal, Boston) and customer sites as needed). Contribute to cytometry workflow improvements, resolve recurring instrument or workflow issues, and build platform knowledge around cytometer components and QC metrics. Requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related engineering discipline and 4+ years of relevant experience, plus strong communication skills and experience in customer installations or field deployments. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment and able to work cross-functionally across multiple teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related Engineering discipline
  • 4+ years of industry experience in a technical applications, field applications, field service, field deployment, or life science instrumentation role
  • Recent hands-on experience supporting flow cytometers, ideally in a customer-facing or field-facing role
  • Strong understanding of flow cytometry including instrument setup, fluidics, optics, lasers, detectors, calibration, QC, controls, compensation, gating, data acquisition, troubleshooting, and assay variability
  • Experience with commercial flow cytometry platforms from companies such as Bio-Rad, Cytek, BD, Beckman Coulter, Sony Biotechnology, Thermo Fisher, or similar life science instrumentation companies
  • Experience training and documenting for both technical users and non-expert operators
  • Experience supporting customer installations, assay transfers, product deployments, instrument qualification, or on-site technical implementations
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup or scaling technical operations environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including SOPs, technical guides, training materials, and support documentation
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, R&D, Product, Quality, Commercial, and customer-facing teams
