Job Summary
Develop detailed flight test plans, coordinate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, and execute tests for Groups 1 to 4 Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Conduct pre-flight inspections, monitor real-time flight data, and troubleshoot issues while ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and safety protocols. Analyze collected data to assess UAV performance, prepare comprehensive reports, and lead post-test debriefs to identify lessons learned. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to refining test methodologies. This role requires a strong background in aerospace engineering with 7-10 years of experience, including at least 5 years in UAV flight testing. Schedule includes a regular flight test cadence at local ranges with occasional support in San Luis Obispo and travel up to 50% for CONUS and OCONUS events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 7-10 years of experience in aerospace engineering
- at least 5 years in UAV flight testing or a closely related field
- Proven experience in planning and conducting flight tests for unmanned systems
- Experience with data acquisition systems, telemetry, and flight control systems
- Knowledge of FAA regulations and airworthiness standards for UAVs
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
