Job Summary
Flight Nurse collaborates with the Flight Paramedic to deliver advanced critical care to patients; serves as the senior clinical nurse responsible for direct patient care under Life Flight Network guidelines, demonstrates leadership in high-stress aviation medical transports, maintains competency in advanced critical care skills (e.g., chest tube insertion, endotracheal intubation, intraosseous access, central line), and ensures accurate documentation, equipment readiness, and collaboration with the flight team to place aircraft back in service promptly; role involves age-appropriate patient care across pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations, potential cross-coverage of fixed-wing and ambulance calls, and participation in safety, quality, and operational activities with opportunities for professional development and public education.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of ICU/ED/Trauma experience within the last ten (10) years
- RN license as appropriate to assigned location
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) certification
- TPATC certification must be completed prior to independent duties
- CFRN exam must be taken within one year of hire, certification within 2 years of hire
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) strongly preferred until CFRN
- Drivers must have a current, valid state issued driver’s license and at least three years of driving experience
- Maintenance of Airport Badge (where applicable)
- Passport and/or Entry into Canada may be required based on location assignment
- Complies with weight restrictions (maximum 250 pounds fully outfitted)
- Strong leadership skills and ability to communicate and work with a variety of people
- Ability to work varied shifts and cover fixed wing and/or ambulance call shifts
