Job Summary
Flight Inspector – Level 2 or Level 3 responsible for front-line inspection of flight-critical hardware at Northrop Grumman's Sterling/Dulles, VA facilities. Perform receiving inspection on EEE components, PWBs, RF cable assemblies, COTS, and Government- or Contractor-Furnished Equipment; validate certificates of conformance, test data, lot traceability, and applicable quality requirements prior to material acceptance. Execute inspections per Quality Specification Instructions and program requirements; initiate and close inspection records in TIPQA and verify Costpoint routing. Issue Nonconformance Reports and support MRB documentation; apply visual, dimensional, and documentation-based inspection techniques and enforce hold conditions where documentation or configuration is unresolved. Support RCCA activities and collaborate with Procurement/Supplier Quality/Production to resolve deficiencies. Requires familiarity with AS9100 or equivalent QMS and SQAR, ability to use precision measuring instruments, and capability to train or guide lower-level inspectors. Roles may be filled at Level 2 or Level 3 with corresponding qualification expectations. No relocation assistance and no government clearance required to start. Salary ranges: Primary Level 2: $61,100 - $101,800; Secondary Level 3: $72,600 - $121,000. Location: Sterling, VA and Dulles, VA. Equal Opportunity Employer.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Level 2 requires 2 years related experience or education beyond HS
- Level 3 requires 4 years related experience or education beyond HS
- Experience with receiving inspection for identity and dimensional conformance
- Experience with visual inspection for defects
- Ability to make pass/fail decisions and maintain inspection records
- Familiarity with AS9100 or equivalent QMS
- Familiarity with SQAR requirements and Q-code application
- Ability to initiate and document Nonconformance Reports (NCRs)
- Ability to support RCCA investigations
- Experience using TIPQA and Costpoint for inspection management
- Proficiency with ERP systems (Deltek Costpoint, SAP)
- IPC-A-610 familiarity and other PWB inspection standards
- Background in aerospace/defense manufacturing and supplier quality
- No clearance required to start
- Ability to train or assist lower-level inspectors
