Job Summary
Conduct skilled installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of automotive, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment under general supervision. Overhaul internal combustion engines, brake systems, transmissions, and earth-moving machinery including cranes, tractors, and forklifts. Perform welding, brazing, and cutting of metal parts while diagnosing complex mechanical faults and operating diagnostic laptops. Maintain garage buildings and tools in a clean, safe condition, and prepare all vehicle and repair documentation. Direct and train employees assigned to assist with work tasks. Complete job briefings before every task to identify and mitigate workplace hazards. Perform preventative routine maintenance on class vehicles and aerial lift devices, including hydraulic system testing with gages. Review vendor work for completeness and compliance, reporting any defective or inadequate repairs to supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of four (4) years of diversified experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles and equipment, or equivalent experience
- required hydraulic and ASE certifications
- Thorough practical knowledge of the construction, operation, maintenance, repair of automotive, medium, heavy-duty truck and mobile equipment
- Working knowledge of specialized tools and equipment required for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repair work
- Practical knowledge of welding equipment, safe operating practices, and metal cutting, bending, and welding techniques
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturer manuals, drawings, blueprints, hydraulic schematics, and technical specifications
- Ability to receive, understand, and relay instructions clearly to promote safety, cooperation, and efficient work outcomes
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with employees in other departments, sections, and external organizations
- Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately diagnose vehicle and equipment malfunctions
- Must pass Company-required Class A motor vehicle operator tests
- Must have a Class B and required to complete a Class A within 12 months of hire date
- Must have knowledge on the latest computer software, the use of diagnostic laptops and scan tools for applicable use on light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, and equipment
- Must be able to represent First Energy's ethical business practices with internal and external customers
- Must be able to consistently complete a job briefing before every task has been started to identify and either eliminate or mitigate workplace hazards, hand tool safety and anything found during the job briefing
- Must be able to diagnose and test mobile hydraulic systems with hydraulic gages and be able to set all pressures on the unit according to the manufacturers specifications while performing the operational testing of the booms
