Job Summary
Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on Space Center Houston's fleet of vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations. Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as brake checks, fluid level checks, and alignment services. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools to identify problems and replace faulty components like engines, transmissions, and fuel systems. Maintain detailed records of all work performed, track service history, and manage scheduling for upcoming maintenance. Respond to roadside breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed, working flexible hours to accommodate vehicle downtime. Manage parts ordering and ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations. Communicate with drivers about vehicle performance and maintenance needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Mechanical certification such as ASE or equivalent
- Three to five years' experience as a Diesel and Gas mechanic, particularly in fleet maintenance or a similar role
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills, with experience in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate professionally with drivers about vehicle status and operational issues
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Must be able to work with little or no supervision
- Must have a valid Texas Driver's License
- Must pass a drug screening test
- Ability to read gauges and instructions
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Must lift 50 lbs. independently and team lift 150 lbs
- Capable of working in outdoor areas with hot or cold weather conditions and confined spaces
- Comfortable working at elevated heights using appropriate fall protection
Desired Qualifications
