Job Summary
Fleet Mechanic responsible for maintenance and repair of the City's fleet and, as needed, related infrastructure equipment. Duties include examining vehicles to determine damage or malfunctions, reviewing active manufacturer recalls for city equipment, using hydraulic tools, rebuilding/replacing parts, welding, wiring, and repairing machinery. May perform additional duties in other divisions (e.g., operate heavy equipment, assist in snow/ice removal, general facility/garage upkeep). Requires high school diploma or equivalent, two years of public-works maintenance experience, and a valid Class A CDL (or ability to obtain within 1 year). Must have vehicle/equipment maintenance certification, PC skills, strong communication, and the ability to work varying shifts, including overtime and weekends. Must reside within a 30-minute emergency response area. Location: O’Fallon, IL; 40 hours weekly; daytime/evening/weekend flexibility. Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- At least two years of public works (or related) maintenance experience
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A) with driving record in good standing or ability to acquire within 1 year of employment
- Certification (or documented training) in vehicle/equipment maintenance
- Ability/experience to productively use a personal computer (email, file management)
- Understand, interpret, explain and apply relevant policies, procedures and regulations
- Great communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public (English speaking)
- Technical competence and basic electrical skills
- Ability to use (or learn to use) a variety of tools and equipment effectively
- Ability to work in adverse conditions (hot, cold, wet, confined spaces, etc)
- Ability to pass an essential functions evaluation showing physical ability to perform duties (lifting over 100 pounds, bending, squatting, etc)
- Regular attendance and willingness to work overtime and staggered shifts as needed
- Live in or relocate to area with 30 minute response time to emergency callouts
