Job Summary
Direct and oversee daily fleet maintenance activities for airport-owned vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized airfield tools, including preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and fabrication. Supervise assigned Equipment Technicians while performing hands-on work to ensure equipment reliability and support safe, efficient airport operations, including snow and ice control activities. Schedule repairs to minimize downtime and maintain accurate records using the CMMS, ensuring all work complies with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and SARAA standards. Respond to equipment failures and after-hours callouts as required. Reports to the Assistant Manager – Airfield Maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Identification Badge following a ten-year background and criminal history investigation
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience maintaining fleet vehicles and heavy equipment
- Ability to complete all required FAA, TSA, OSHA, EPA, and SARAA training
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language
- Must be able to clearly communicate maintenance priorities, repair status, safety concerns, and emergency equipment needs
- Possess basic computer knowledge and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to retain and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical equipment failures
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and manufacturer specifications
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance or mechanical lifting devices
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish the full visual color spectrum
- Ability to use the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) related to daily assignment
- Ability to work long hours during emergencies, severe weather events, or snow and ice control operations
- Ability to respond to equipment failures, emergencies, and after-hours callouts as required
Desired Qualifications
- Technical or vocational training in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment maintenance
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or lead technician experience in a fleet maintenance environment
- Experience maintaining gas and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, electrical systems, computerized diagnostics, and welding/fabrication
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A
- ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certification
- EPA Section 609 Air Conditioning Certification
- PA State inspection class 7 and PA State emissions license
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), fleet maintenance software, diagnostic software, and electronic work order systems
