Job Summary
Fleet Maint Tech I performs diagnostics and repairs on trucks, construction vehicles, and related equipment. Responsibilities include repairing/overhauling engines, clutches, brakes, steering, differentials, transmissions, disassembling motors, repairing/replacing wiring for ignition/lighting, re-assembling/adjusting/testing repaired equipment, realigning brakes, rebuilding starters/alternators, and operating vehicles to complete work assignments. Requires extended hours, on-call availability, and supervision by the Fleet Shop Supervisor. Must understand safety rules and repair manuals/diagrams, diagnose defects, and communicate effectively. Minimum qualifications include an associates degree/certification in automotive technology with 2+ years of experience or equivalent, or a high school diploma with 6+ years of related experience; FET and NC CDL Class A required.
Required Qualifications
- A) Graduation from an accredited two-year community/technical college, with an associates degree/certification in automotive technology, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance, including gasoline and diesel powered equipment
- B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and a minimum of six (6) years of experience as defined in (A) above
- C) An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as defined in (A) and (B) above
- Functional Employment Test (FET) required. Must possess/maintain a valid North Carolina Class A (CDL) Driver’s License.
