Job Summary
Build, assemble, and modify fixtures, jigs, gauges, and tooling according to engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications. Read blueprints, GD&T, and technical documentation to ensure accurate construction, then perform precision fitting, alignment, and adjustment to required tolerances. Operate hand tools, power tools, and machining equipment to fabricate, repair, and modify components. Conduct testing and verification to ensure proper function and repeatability, while troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime. Safely set up and operate mill room equipment including band saws, table saws, drill presses, and sanders. Perform basic shop math and technical calculations for shrinkage, draft angles, and material expansion. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Technical training, skilled trades education, or experience in fixture building, gage making, manufacturing, or a related field
- Experience using fixture building tools, shop equipment, and precision measuring instruments
- Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
- Ability to perform basic shop math and technical calculations
- Mechanical aptitude with attention to detail and quality
- Ability to work safely around machinery and follow established shop procedures
- Willingness to learn new materials, manufacturing methods, and fabrication techniques
Desired Qualifications
- Experience building fixtures or gauges in an automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing environment
- Experience working to close tolerances (±0.005" or better)
- Experience with machining equipment, fabrication, and tooling modification
- Knowledge of GD&T principles
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to provide and use a personal toolbox with the tools required to perform the job
