Job Summary
Sequence and balance work across skiving, marking, cementing, backstay, eyelet, box toe, closing, and top-stitch stations to ensure every upper reaches Lasting complete, in size order, and on schedule. Own the department skill matrix by rating operators on every station and closing gaps where only one person can run a machine. Set and adjust thread tension, needle size, stitch length, and gauge on post-bed, flatbed, and Puritan machines. Inspect uppers for stitch quality, seam alignment, backstay placement, and eyelet spacing before release. Manage work in process, raising bottlenecks early, and train new fitters to certify them before unsupervised production. Perform this role on the production floor with standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Ten or more years in a footwear stitching room
- hands-on capable on at least four machine types
- Able to set up and troubleshoot industrial sewing machines without calling maintenance for routine adjustments
- Able to run a skill matrix and schedule around absence
- Standing and walking for most of the shift
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
- Repetitive use of hands
- Hearing and eye protection required in designated areas
- Steel-toe footwear required on the production floor
