Job Summary
Fitter/Welder (Structural Steel) in Phoenix, AZ, performing in-shop fabrication and field-related tasks in a steady, full-time role. Responsibilities include layout and fit-up of steel components from shop drawings, setting up welding machines/wire feeders, performing welds per AWS D1.1 standards, verifying fit-up against drawings and quality controls, grinding/finish prep, removing slag/defects, equipment maintenance, reading/interpreting shop drawings, and completing fabrication tasks safely and efficiently. Requires 3–5 years of structural steel fitting/welding experience, ability to read shop drawings, ability to pass an in-shop layout/fit-up test, valid ID with background and drug screening, OSHA 10/30 a plus, and professional English. MIG welding with solid-core wire and welding mild steel over 1.5 inches thick are preferred. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5 am–3 pm with potential half-days; compensation starts at $20+/hour with opportunities for advancement; full benefits, 401(k), and other company perks available.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in structural steel fitting, layout, and welding (Flux Cored Arc Welding required)
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and plans
- Must pass an in-shop layout/fit-up test (bring hood, gloves, and jacket)
- Valid identification (background and drug screening required)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification a plus
- Professional working proficiency in English
- MIG welding with solid-core gas-shielded wire (preferred)
- Experience welding mild steel over 1.5" thick (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
