Job Summary
Follow fit and layout instructions from detailed drawings, tack weld materials, and assemble products using GMAW, FCAW, and SAW processes. Operate overhead cranes to move components, use plasma torches for cutting, and maintain welding equipment in a safe manner. Produce high-quality welds for communication towers and sign structures while reading blueprints, interpreting shop drawings, and performing basic mathematical calculations. Adhere to safety protocols, wear mandatory PPE, and maintain a clean, organized workplace using LEAN practices. Work the 2nd shift from 4:00 pm to 2:30 am Monday through Thursday at a Valmont facility in El Dorado, Kansas.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a person of passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
- Ability to regularly meet or exceed production goals while not sacrificing safety or quality
- Ability to read weld symbols and understand blueprints
- The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings
- Basic working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook or similar email software
- Must have an acceptable attendance and prior employment record
- Must be able to use and accurately read a tape measure
- Must be able to use and accurately read levels, squares, and angle finders to measure distances and angles
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
- Multi-pass, stack layering welding experience
- Three (3) to Five (5) years' experience with fitting/welding in a manufacturing environment
- Must be able to use GMAW welding equipment for tack welds
- Must be able to burn with a torch (or ability to learn)
- Flexibility to work in different work areas, including Large Pole, Small Pole, Backweld, and/or Weld Repair
- Must be able to pass GMAW weld test and maintain certification
- Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
- Five + years of previous experience with fitting/welding in a manufacturing environment
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- AWS certified welder operator qualification
- The ability to accurately and honestly check one's own work for quality assurance
- Able to do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and fraction conversion)
- Able to use a computer to enter production date, perform time keeping functions, interface with machines and other equipment
- Able to read and comprehend routings and blueprints
- Able to use a tape measure

- Ability to operate overhead cranes, prior experience preferred
