Job Summary
Receive instructions, prints, sketches, and work orders, then read and interpret blueprints to plan the fitting operation. Direct the handling and spreading of material, assembling it according to detail drawings while placing bolts, drift pins, and other fasteners. Lay out work lines or fit jigs for positioning, checking, squaring, and scribing connections. Conform work to drawings, clean material by grinding or chipping, and perform minor layout, burning, tacking, coping, beveling, and straightening. Spot paint for identification marks and maintain a clean, organized work area. Adhere to all safety rules and PPE requirements. Must pass a fitter test and possess proficiency in hand tools, blueprints, and structural metal heat reactions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 12 months experience
- Ability to pass fitter test
- Knowledge of variety of hand tools and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and other employees of the organization
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
