Job Summary
The Fitter will perform skilled duties and operate equipment for the operation, maintenance and installation of natural gas piping systems and related facilities. Responsibilities include setting meters, retiring old meter sets, repairing service lines, connecting and disconnecting meters, repairing leaks, using tapping and air compressor equipment, ditch digging, and operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, and dump trucks. The role is subject to pipeline-safety rules (49 CFR Part 192) and random drug/alcohol testing, with emphasis on outdoor construction work, safety, and credential requirements. Successful candidates will undergo background checks and, if needed, obtain a Class A CDL. Veterans’ skills from military service are valued and transferable to civilian roles in Peoples Natural Gas.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL
- Proven experience working outdoors performing construction/manual labor
- Ability to operate heavy equipment; backhoe experience preferred
- Successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history report, motor vehicle report and a DOT drug screening
