Job Summary
Deliver low-impact, safe group or in-home exercises to older adults, incorporating tools like resistance bands and music to prevent injury and reduce fall risk. Set up physical class environments and promote client independence through targeted fitness and health promotion. Utilize effective communication to obtain client information, complete required paperwork, and collaborate with Program Supervisors, coordinators, and other staff to address program needs. Provide fall prevention education as directed and participate in ongoing service delivery reviews. Report incidents timely in accordance with legislation and VON policies. Maintain a safe workplace compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and VON Safety Management System. Requires a personal vehicle, current driver's license, and proof of vehicle insurance.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate
- First Aid and CPR
- Certification and/or certificate of completion as a Seniors Fitness Instructor and/or equivalent
- Current driver's license
- Proof of vehicle insurance
- Access to a personal vehicle for business use
- Current and original copy of a satisfactory criminal records check including a vulnerable sector screen
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
- Respect for privacy and confidentiality
- Dependability and trustworthiness
- Good communication and active listening skills
- Capacity to remain calm in unexpected situations
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Ability to speak French
Desired Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a healthcare setting
- Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults
- Experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions
- Experience working in a retirement home or assisted living environment
- Ability to speak French in French designated areas
