Job Summary
Fisheries-focused role conducting logbook distribution/processing, QA of HMS and Coastal logbooks, and managing the SEFSC Fisheries Electronic Reporting System (FERS). Responsibilities include distributing logbooks to permit holders, validating post-scanning corrections, monitoring a help line, generating FERS registration instructions, testing eTrips versions, and performing data queries/analyses (SQL, SAS, or R) for QC with periodic presentations at management and industry meetings. Also responsible for monthly status reporting, travel budgeting, and coordinating with stakeholders such as Fishery Management Council, ACCSP, GFIN, and HMS Advisory Panel. Requires onsite work in Miami, FL, U.S. citizenship, and an MS degree (or BS with 3 years of relevant experience) with strong data analysis and communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- MS Degree in Marine Science or related field; OR BS Degree + 3 years relevant experience
- Computer literate; experienced with word processing, database, statistical, and graphics programs
- Knowledge of fish/related biological field sufficient to independently perform scientific tasks using standard methods and techniques
- SQL, SAS, or R for data query and analysis
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of logbook data processes and electronic reporting systems
- Ability to present technical information to varied audiences

- Experience presenting technical information to varied audiences
- Experience with electronic reporting systems (FERS or similar)
- Experience collecting catch and effort information from commercial fishers
- Familiarity with HMS/Coastal logbook data processes
