Fishery Biologist II/ Biosampling Standardization Specialist

Job Summary
Participate in bio sampling operations to understand TIP sampling protocols and logistical issues; accompany Federal and Partner TIP samplers to field sites; collect lengths, weights, and biological samples (primarily otoliths); produce trip reports within one week of each trip; generate quarterly QA/QC reports via TIPS web portal; conduct biannual QA/QC discussions with contract dockside samplers; update QA/QC tools and literature; work with technology vendors to develop electronic data collection systems; provide training and support to TIP samplers; participate in public outreach events. Must hold an MS in Marine Science or BS with relevant experience; skilled in SAS, SQL Developer, Excel/Access; capable of preparing reports and presenting findings; onsite in Miami, FL.
Required Qualifications
- MS Degree in Marine Science or related field; OR BS Degree + 3 years relevant experience
- Knowledge of fish/related biological field sufficient to independently perform scientific tasks
- Proficient in use of fish, invertebrate, and protected species ID books and keys
- Computer literate; experienced with word processing, database, statistical, and graphics programs
- Capable of writing college-level reports and making oral presentations
- SAS code development
- SQL Developer for data queries
- Excel and Access for data management
- Ability to develop training materials and technical manuals
- Oral presentation and technical writing skills
