Job Summary

Advanced Fisheries Research Specialist will contribute to all elements of the life cycle of research projects from conception to completion, assist in development of research proposals including literature searches, proposal writing and budget development, help develop field and laboratory research procedures, and in some cases lead field-based research. The role includes overseeing training on safety protocols and procedures, supervising sampling, data entry and management, performing data analysis, and engaging in computer programming (R, MATLAB, Python, SAS, GIS) to analyze data and generate reports. Core duties include at-sea field operations, training junior staff, coordinating processing and archiving of biological material, generating contract reports and manuscripts, and collaborating with principal investigators, vendors, and stakeholders. Strong emphasis on analytical skills, laboratory and vessel safety, communication, and teamwork is required; proficiency with ArcGIS and other software, plus experience with fishery-dependent/independent data and project management, are preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in fisheries, biology, ecology, natural resource management, or a closely related field; experience as described in the role
