Job Summary

Fisheries Monitoring Technician / Fishery Biologist I — onsite in Miami, FL, contract position. Assist with distribution, reception, and quality control of commercial fisherman logbooks (HMS, Coastal Fisheries, and Wreckfish); annually distribute logbooks by mail to permit holders within December; travel locally to pick up logbooks; process incoming logbooks (stamp, organize, assign schedule numbers); monitor permit holder inquiries and respond within 4 business days; mail Wreckfish logbooks and dealer reporting forms annually by March 20; data entry and validation of logbooks and dealer forms; submit monthly status reports to the Chief, Fisheries Monitoring Branch. Desired: participate in SEFSC public outreach events. Requires BS in Marine Science or related field or 3 years relevant experience; computer literate with word processing, database, statistical, and graphics programs. This is a contract role with normal duties including data entry, logbook processing, and outreach support.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Marine Science or related field OR 3 years relevant experience
  • Computer literate; experienced with word processing, database, statistical, and graphics programs
  • Ability to perform data entry and validation of logbook and dealer forms
