Job Summary
Instruct, mentor, and engage Scouts (ages 11-17) in fishing, fly fishing, and related merit badges while presenting to groups of 5-20 to transfer knowledge and empower skill application. Coordinate instructional materials, turn in accurate advancement paperwork, and assist with setup, maintenance, and takedown of camping areas. Model the Scout Oath and Law, maintain a clean and safe work area, and participate in camp-wide programs including campfires and evening activities. Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership and adhere to staff handbook policies. Requires standing and hiking up to 8 hours daily with a 50+ hour work schedule. Located at the Summit Bechtel Reserve near New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18+
- Comfortable speaking and presenting in front of youth and adults
- Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
- Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
- Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
- Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
- Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp
- Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform
- Work Hours: 50+
Desired Qualifications
- Previous fishing, fly fishing, and/or wildlife management experience/education and/or Scouting experience
- High emotional intelligence (such as self/social awareness and team dynamics)
- Positive and cheerful attitude with a strong customer-service focus
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn/develop hard and soft skills
- Ability to connect with individuals from diverse age groups, maturity, and backgrounds
