Job Summary
Instruct, mentor, and engage Scouts (ages 11-17) in fishing, fly fishing, and related merit badges while presenting to groups of 5-20 youth to transfer knowledge and empower skill application. Coordinate and collect instructional materials, turn in accurate advancement paperwork, and assist with setup, maintenance, and takedown of program areas. Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions, maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Participate in camp-wide activities including campfires and evening programs, while abiding by SBR staff handbook policies. Requires 50+ work hours, ability to hike and lift up to 50 pounds daily, and willingness to become a registered Scouting America member. Located at Justice National Scout Camp near New River Gorge National Park.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18+
- Comfortable speaking and presenting in front of youth and adults
- Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
- Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
- Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
- Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
- Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp
- Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform
- Work Hours: 50+
Desired Qualifications
- Previous fishing, fly fishing, and/or wildlife management experience/education and/or Scouting experience
