Job Summary
Firmware Engineer (Embedded Systems) to design, develop, test, and support embedded firmware for industrial IoT devices in remote, mission-critical environments. Collaborate with hardware, software, cloud, QA, and product teams to deliver high-performance, power-efficient solutions. Responsibilities include designing and maintaining firmware, optimizing performance and power, implementing communication protocols between embedded systems and connected devices, debugging complex firmware/hardware/system issues, root-cause analysis, validation planning and testing, supporting automated tests, and contributing to product requirements, documentation, and customer/field support. Required: degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering or CS; 5+ years in embedded software; strong C/C++, with experience in RTOS (FreeRTOS asset); familiarity with UART, SPI, I2C, RS232, RS485, USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP; debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, multimeters); experience with 24/7 industrial environments; preference for low-power/battery-operated designs; asset experience with LTE, BLE, RF, and Industrial IoT; beneficial experience in natural gas, energy, or industrial automation sectors.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of embedded software development experience
- Strong programming skills in C/C++
- Experience with RTOS-based systems (FreeRTOS asset)
- Experience with UART, SPI, I2C, RS232, RS485, USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP
- Debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, multimeters)
- Experience with 24/7 industrial environments
- Low-power, battery-operated system design desirable
- Exposure to LTE, BLE, RF technologies, and Industrial IoT assets
