Firefighter-Paramedic Recruit

Non-sworn Firefighter-Paramedic Recruit participates in an 18-week Fire Academy and related training to prepare for a sworn Firefighter-Paramedic career with the City of Ventura. Recruits are assigned to a 40-hour work week during the academy and training period, with Trainees moving to a 56-hour work week (24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays) as part of progression. The role involves training in firefighting techniques, emergency medical response, physical fitness, and applicable rules, regulations, and procedures; duties upon advancement include fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, station and equipment maintenance, fire prevention, and public education.
