Job Summary
Non-sworn Firefighter-Paramedic Recruit participates in an 18-week Fire Academy and related training to prepare for a sworn Firefighter-Paramedic career with the City of Ventura. Recruits are assigned to a 40-hour work week during the academy and training period, with Trainees moving to a 56-hour work week (24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays) as part of progression. The role involves training in firefighting techniques, emergency medical response, physical fitness, and applicable rules, regulations, and procedures; duties upon advancement include fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, station and equipment maintenance, fire prevention, and public education. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Age at least 18
- U.S. citizenship or proof of application for citizenship
- Background investigation clearance
- CPAT certificate
- Paramedic license (EMT-P) or National Registry Paramedic license
- Valid California Class C driver’s license with acceptable driving record (prior to start)
- PALS/PEPP certification (or equivalent) with expiration beyond academy graduation
- ACLS certification with expiration beyond academy graduation
- CPAT certificate dated within required window
- Active on FCTC Statewide Eligibility List by specified date
- Ability to pass medical evaluation and physical requirements
